Really. If they haven't improve the mileage they really haven't improved on a Travco from what I saw. A lot of sizzle but not much steak.

I get about 8 MPG out of our Travco pulling a 2016 Dodge Journey on a dolly. I will be putting fuel injection on the 440 to make it easier to start and hoping I might get 1 to 2 mpg better mileage out of it. The gasoline powered 200,000 dollar rigs with their ford
gas v10s were listed between 8 and 10 mpg. I have a friend with a V10 in their Ford pu and it only gets 8 mpg so I believe the RV builders might be a little generous with their numbers. The Class C sprinters do better with the diesel but they are expensive. The diesel pushers or super Cs are good for 8 to 10 mpg. There have been a few who have done a diesel conversion to the Travcos and are getting 15.

A little cold climate trivia. It's hard to see in this picture but the camera is on the ground and the Travco is sitting about 10" higher. The ground around it is thawing and under the Travco it's still frozen. The moisture in the ground expands as it freezes and because the frost went so deep this year (long cold winter) the Travco was sitting close to a foot higher then when it was parked last fall.

We went from winter to monsoon season here and the ground has been so wet we can't move it inside yet. I have done some more work and I'll post that in the next couple days. It will be the end of July before I can get back at it.

So it's close to 14 months since I got the beast and finally got it inside. I guess this is how a project turns into a 5 year event. I work on motorcycles regularly and everything is so much easier when the vehicle doesn't weigh 12,000lbs and take up a living room size area. It required actually moving walls and work areas, wiring and lighting in the building to accommodate the Travco for the next X years while we rebuild it. I still have some rearranging to do which hopefully I will have done this weekend. I will post some pictures soon and with any luck will be updating the thread regularly from here until the temperature bottoms out. Old insulation and floor plywood removal are up next.

I know this is an old post but just wondering if Woodsman still checks in here once in a while. Would love to see any any progress with the 220 since I'm about to embark on a similar journey.

I am around. I was making some progress but have been tied up with other projects, mostly due to life being a pain in the butt the last couple years when it comes to trying to find parts and get them delivered. This is the year of the big push so we will be able to help solve each others quandries.

I haven't a big enough heated space to work through the winter on it, I see from your location that you might be on hold to spring as well.

I have a 1971 220 in good condition, it has the 413 in it. I’m planning on putting a 12v Cumins with a5 speed allison behind it. I’m not sure what transfer case would work the best .Any one have suggestions for this particular part of the project?
