Re: What do I really have?

Unread postby 77Travco on Tue Jun 30, 2015 8:22 am

I once had a no fire, no start issue with my 440-3... I was stumped because I was getting voltage to the coil and distributor. After replacing all the ignition parts, it turned out to be a burned up rotor inside the cap. I hadn't bothered to check it because it was fairly new.
I now carry a spare part for everything in the ignition system, including a new distributor. :D

Where is a good place to order parts for the 440. Autozove and O'Really are not too helpful on some of the parts that I would like to have. I would like to get factory parts. They may cost a little more but I feel that it is worth it. Thank you.

The trick to locating Dodge Motorhome chassis parts is to use the Dodge P/N from the parts book then cross-ref that to the after market P/N.

Step 1 - Get the Dodge Motorhome Service manual. You want the 73 version. For 74/75 Dodge issued a supplement to the 73 manual so you have to have the 73 manual plust the supplement to get coverage through 75. Dodge had a standalone manual for 76/77. Only reason you might consider that one also is that you have a 76 engine block. There are paper and digital copies available.
EBAY

Faxon Auto Literature

Classic Winnebagos site store has the cheapest digital versions of the service & parts manuals in the site store.

Make sure you get the Class A Motorhome chassis (M300/M375/RM300/M400(RM350)/M500(RM400)/M600) and not the van chassis (B100/B200/MB200/CB200/B300/MB300/CB300/MB400/CB400) books.

Step 2 - Get the 69-77 Dodge Motorhome Parts book at the same places I listed above.

Having the service and parts book will save a world of trouble.

Note: The R4 designator says you have a M400 chassis which originally was designated as M350. Many times you will find the parts you need under the M350 designator rather than M400 or R400 because the aftermarket origiannly set up their info using the M350 designator. Dodge changed M350 to M400 in 75 then said that applies back to 73. The aftermarket did not change their coding. Many M400 brake parts are listed under M350 not M400.

That grille is not original. Someone made it. It came with round headlights.

NAPA. Parts are easier to get for a Travco 220. Just use M300. When on NAPA's website you may have to try different years. like sometimes they will have the part listed for 1975 but not 1974 even though they are basically the same. The parts guys at Advance and autozones around here are minimum wage retards so unless you go in with a part number, you won't get anything from them. Alot of times you can cross NAPA part numbers to the company that makes them for NAPA then find them on rockauto for less. Ie: the 270 u joint is NAPA 304 but Moog makes it so it's essentially Moog 304 etc etc.
I posted the part number for the master cyl in the parts section. The 220 uses the same master as the 270 from that I could tell. Atleast the two I have sitting here are the same. The boosters were the same too.

I noticed it has a Steer Safe stabilizer unit added on the front end. I just bought one and it is not a cheap item.

What size wheels and tires do you have? For some reason they don't look like 19.5" in the pics... maybe it's my eyes.
