Trying to identify a GMC? Travco

Unread post by Wayner » Mon Sep 07, 2015 2:10 pm

travco 1.jpg
Hi all: I just joined the forum after looking at an old Travco I was told it was an 1960 Dodge Travco. It has not been licenced since 1988, has been vandalized and neglected, but what I found curious is that it has a GMC insignia on the front and the shifter control is not buttons but dash mounted lever. I was also told it had a new engine, I assume some time prior to 1988 ( I guess new is relative). It was rainy and the MC is sitting where it was parked some 27 years ago, so with wet and the tree growing over it I didn't poke around a lot but I wonder if Travco put their coaches on some GMC chassis or if the new motor was a GM motor and trany and some one changed the front insignia to correspond or ????? \nI will try and attach some photos.\nAny thoughts will be appreciated.\nWayne R

Can you get a picture of the whole outside of the RV? It does look like a Travco that someone stuck GMC letters on but I'd rather see a better pic before I say for sure. Maybe someone re-powered a Travco with GM drive line ? It should have a Dodge drive line. Also how long is the coach ?

Thanks. I will get picture of the whole MC in the next day or two. And yes after looking at the pictures closer I think the GMC letters were added after. I think you can see the bolt holes where the Dodge letters were attached. Maybe somebodies idea of a joke?\nWayne

What engine is in it? \n I have seen a picture of a Ford powered Travco that was done in the seventies or eighties. I have also read about an old Perkins diesel conversion from back in the day as well as several recent Cummings diesel swaps.

I've attached a photo of the full length of the MC. I am sure its a Dodge Travco. Can anyone guess what year it is and does it have any value? is it worth pulling out of the trees?\nThanks for the help\nWayne

That's a 1968 or older Travco 270. That's my favorite body style Travco with the low wheel wells and quad headlights. Judging by the windows, I would guess that it came with the bunk bed option. Yes, it's worth something... especially to the right person.

Based on the side window. to the left of the entrance door, having the upper part\nin divided panels... It most likely is a 1965 or earlier and 318 powered...IMO.\nBBB

I think it's a 65 as well the side window gives it away and the low wheel well. but it's got early round dash gauges I would like to have it. if I had the money Jim
