Drove my Travco

Unread post by 77Travco » Tue Feb 19, 2013 11:56 am

I was working on my Travco yesterday when it occurred to me that I have only driven it once. Albeit, that was an 80 mile trip home on the day I picked it up. So I took it for a 10 mile drive on a rural road where I live.\nI noticed right away that the fuel delivery issued I had before was gone so the new fuel line I installed did the trick! I had to laugh as I passed a hitchhiker and he pulled his thumb back in and looked away as I drove past. Not sure what that was about. lol\nIt was 80 degrees here yesterday so I ran the generator with the roof A/C on. I noticed that the generator died twice during the trip. I ran it for a half hour after I got back just to make sure it wasn't a low fuel issue. Geez I wish the gas gauge worked. I will have to figure that issue out. Maybe a carb adjustment on the gen-set?\nThe coach drove pretty well with the only issues being the spongy brakes and that I could smell some oil burning. When I got back home I looked around and noticed the passenger valve cover leaking so I guess I will be taking care of that soon. The brakes are another story... I noticed brake fluid leaking from a rear wheel cylinder. This coach has 2 per side in the rear so I guess I need to track down some wheel cylinder rebuild kits somewhere. yay! :? \nOf course, when I got back home, I realized that I drove with the step in the down position. I am still a novice motorhome owner but I won't do that again!\nWe are pretty happy with our Travco so far... This has not been the "turnkey" coach that we were originally looking for but as we fix things, we are getting to be more knowledgeable and confident about our new home on wheels!

Don't run the generator while driving. Not a good idea. it can overheat and vapor lock. That is probably what happened. Also don't use the Roof Air units while driving. If you are stuck in traffic inching along, that is different but when you re driving down the highway the Gen compartment does not vent properly. The air rushing by messes with the vaculfow vent system.\n\nFunny, My passenger side VC is leaking too.

This was on a Chieftain Site. It looks outdated though.\nBest I could find was NAPA\n1 1/2 bore WC Part# UP37279 WC Kit UP195\n1 3/8 bore WC Part# UP28661 WC Kit UP1926\nI looked them up for mine but your's might be different. It's hard to tell which model. Even tough We think we have M500's some were referred to as RM400. Kinda confusing but if you wanna try looking them up on NAPA's site make sure you use Med/Heavy Duty truck for 270s or 320's. 210/220's use Auto light truck.\nGood luck and let us know what you find.
