Re: Wiring nightmare!
Mine is left frame rail right next to the bell housing on the tranny. My inoperable cruise control unit was right above it but I removed it for better access.\n\nit is pretty easy to follow your way along the starter circuit with a multimeter and figure out what's what.\n\nLook for a connector near the steering column with a 14 gauge black and light blue wire. Mine still worked but were melted really bad. \n\nRobC

Re: Wiring nightmare!
Thank you for your help robc, I did manage to find it. After replacing it still not cranking, is the blue and black wire you speak of come from the ignition switch? I jumped the relay and it will crank but no fire, found more broken wires along the way. If anyone has info that might help or pictures of the wiring under the dash that will be great. Have any of you relocated the relay, voltage regulator and ballast to a more accessible spot?

Re: Wiring nightmare!
The light blue and black wire connector is from the ignition to the chassis fuse panel. Mine was melted but it was right next to the orange 18 gauge wire that goes from the ignition to the starter relay. This is the one you need for starting. Make sure the orange one is not damaged and connectors or in good shape. digging into the steering column to look at the ignition switch connections is a pain so rule out the stuff you can get to first.\n\nCrank but no fire sounds like a coil wire. \n\n My 76 has an open float bowl carb so if it sits around in warm temps the fuel evaporates out of the bowl. Meaning you have to crank the motor to get the fuel pump to push fuel into the bowl (5 to 10 cranks- then pump the pedal to get fuel from the bowl via the accelerator pump to the idle jets. You should see a stream of fuel from the idle jets into the primary bores with every pump of the pedal. Look down the primary bore skinny stove pipe on top front of the carb with the choke plate held open. you will see the brass idle jet fitting between the two bores with two tiny little needles coming off either side. This is where the fuel should be coming out.\n\nMine also has a finicky neutral start switch. Try putting yours in neutral before starting. These are non-electrical but best to rule them out.

Re: Wiring nightmare!
Robc you can see what I'm fighting against, this is under the dash. Many new wires I think, there are many cut wires uncovered, new soldered joints without any kind of insulation. I'm at a loss right now.
