Re: Newbie with questions
One last question to this post. Seems 75 models can have either a hydro-vac or a hydroboost system. How do you tell the difference?

Re: Newbie with questions
AFAIK... \nHydro-Boost units have a "booster"device at the back of the MC...\nHydro-Vacs are powered by engine vacuum only..\nNot an expert but this last unit (mine, a 1974) is a POS.\nIf I didnt have so much into it, i wouldnt' hesitate to suck it up,\nand cut it up!!! And that is a looming possibility...\nI'm sure there are more and better brake versed people on this site...\n"Chieftan Dave", "Acesneights" and "Travco77" would be three of 'em...\nFWIW\nBBB

Re: Newbie with questions
Hydro boost would have hoses from the power steering pump to the Brake booster. Hydrovac would have a vacuum booster with a vacuum line off the engine to it.

Look above the driver side front wheel. You will see the brake fluid master cylinder/reservoir and a big black goofy looking hunk of metal attached to the front of it with power steering fluid lines running from the PW steering pump (front left on the motor) to the hydroboost system. \n\nMine works great.\n\nRobC

Re: Newbie with questions
My 77 model has hydroboost and front disc ... I think it stops pretty good for a class A motorhome. All my brake issues were with the wheel cylinders leaking from sitting idle too long. I make it a point to drive it every few weeks or so to keep the brakes "exercised".

Re: Newbie with questions
The entire system brake has supposedly been replaced, rotors, mc, lines, hydro-vac units etc and after a number of wheel cylinder exchanges, the brakes still do not get full braking ability. He has been in contact with Winnebago and now a place near Columbus, Ohio and still the same BS... \nA 1974-270...w/front discs but NO hydro-boost... Straight vacuum...This rv center has done 4 of my rv's without any problems and three were travcos... This system ... is a.... IMO\nBBB

Re: Newbie with questions
Mine is a 1975 with Vacuum and front disc. It stops fine. In fact I towed my 3,000 lb VW behind it on a dolly with no brakes and it stopped fine. If it's not stopping then something is not right. Alot of times it is bad hydravacs. When I changed both mine, i was night and day.\nThe few I have owned(Travco's) with Drum fronts(220 or270)were downright scary. That statment comes from a CLass A CDL driver of 29 years who drove DM Macks that had no Maxi brakes.
