The overheating issue may be solved with a new thermostat and radiator cap. It's very important to run the correct thermostat on a 440... cap too.

Re: 1974 Project in Alaska
I wonder... I have two caps, is that normal ? a sort of extension with a quick release valve.\nIt was low on coolant, I haven't found the leak. There is also still some gunk in there, Im going to try and find the drain plug on the block and give it a good flush. \n\nMy Granddad also suggested I get a pressure tester / have it pressure tested. \n\nTiming is still a bit suspect, hard to start and a little bit of a rough idle for the first 5-10 minutes. Going back to the shop as soon as I manufacture some more hundred dollar bills ( A DIFFERENT SHOP!!)

There is a radiator cap on the extension... where is your other cap located?\nThe lever type caps are not the correct kind and may cause "running hot" issues. I included a picture of the cap I have as well as what the service manual calls for.

My 440 also runs a bit rough for the first few minutes and then smooths out. I've done everything except rebuild the carb but it runs so good I don't want to mess with it.

Whole thing looks great Blake:\n\nI had the same layout in my 76 crapper in the back and bunkbeds. I have to build/everything as it was gutted when I got it. I can kind of see where things went but if you get a chance, take a few measurements maybe from the back glass to the wall between the shitter and the bunkbeds and then to the fridge enclosure. I have to build the new bunk beds and want make sure I get them in the right spot.\n\nAlso, I have a hole on the passenger side where the lower bunk would be through the exterior fiberglass. Is your Potable water tank on the passenger side? I also have city water/garden house fitting out the back near the floor. Anybody know what this is?\n\nRobC

What is a Mahal? \n\nThe only hole I have passenger side is the water tank fill. I can measure for you sometime... But it's right about in the middle of the unit outside and toward the front of the "kitchen" wall \n\nThe rear garden hose hookup is the "city water" hookup and it is for a garden hose. \n\nhttp://i.imgur.com/qadq72x.png\n\nHere iis a diagram I made to get my plumbing back on track

The Dodge Mahal was the fancier one with a different layout. I think it's what you have with the crapper in the rear.
