Hi all - trying to get some opinions here.. We came upon a cummins 8.3 for a very good price - wanted to hear your opinions about the swap, im just interested in the M300 chassis, and what upgrades might be necessary? fwiw its 500 lbs heavier than a cummins 5.9-
I can weld/fab whatever I need to - and wife and I already swapped the current 440 out so we have been in there before
currently stripped down and removed about 1500-2000 lbs from her, that will include the superbly heavy ply flooring too, and all the old appliances and generator that weight a metric ton!

Re: 67 Travco 440 to cummins 8.3 swap?
I am sorry I missed this post. With the additional weight you might want to think a heavier duty front axle and springs. The 75 and later from an M500 is rated at 4500 lbs as compared the the 3500lb rating of the M300 front axle. The 75 and later would require some brake work as it is a disc brake axle.

Thanks for replying .. I think the 8.3 is maybe too much.. size and weight wise.
A 5.9 would be better i guess.. swapping front axles yikes .. dunno if up for that .. have to move my shop this week :/
