Wanting a new front axle with 8 lug and disc brakes

Unread post by JeepnJim » Sun Dec 27, 2015 11:15 pm

Does anyone know if the newer 270's have standard 8lug and disc brakes? And if not is there and front axles that have the same or a little wider front axle with disc brakes and a standard 8lug bolt pattern? The spring pad width is 31 3/4" center to center. \nThanks \nJimmy.

I am looking into possibilities also. There was someone on a Dodge truck facebook page that had swapped axles but I don't think it was a simple swap over. He did say he was running 245 70 19.5 tires though. I shared this forum with him but waiting to see if he joins.

All M300, M400, M500, and M600 chassis had front disc brakes from 74 on. Dodge never implemented rear disc brakes on the M series chassis.\n\nFor 74 and later:\nThe M300 (RM300) and M400 (RM350) chassis are the only ones that used 8 lug rims with 17.5" tires.\nThe M500 (RM400) always used 5 lug rims with 19.5" tires\nThe M600 always used 6 lug rims with 19.5" tires

Is there a problem using standard dually 8 lug wheels? I know there are lots of options for sizes.

I have eyed a few older Dodge 5500's and Ford F550's with with idea of purchasing them for their axles and drivetrains. I would just buy a whole donor vehicle in order to eliminate part searching. A divorced style transfer case would simplify things if also doing a 4x4 conversion.

I am really considering doing a 4x4 conversion just cause getting a dually set up is easy. But I have the gearvender behind the tranny so the tcase would be way back there

\n\nThere is plenty of room way back there but it does make fro a long front drive shaft.

\nI have one. 74/75 220's had an 8 lug disc brake front axle. Are you near new england at all ? I might part with it for the right price. They are rare. In fact I have the matching rear 8 lug as well.
