1969 (318) vs 1973 (413) - opinions please

Hi, I own a completely original 1973. Its got drum brakes. Barn find that required about 8,000$ in mechanical repairs to get it safety checked. Someone wants to buy it from me as they are after one with the original interior and its in great shape. If I keep it I was going to put modern appliances in but thats about it. \n\nSomeone else has local has offered to sell me their 1969. I also recently had 9K of mechanical repairs to get it road worthy. The interior has had significant changes - new stove, fridge, wine fridge, custom cabinets and counters, generator, propane tanks, toilet, shower, sink, cockpit chairs with shoulder belts, electrical panel, new interior lighting, hardwood floors. Here is a link to pictures: https://davidstylemaster.wordpress.com/ ... 69-travco/ \n\nThe 1969 would cost me $5,000 more than what I am being offered for mine. I am new to RVs so I dont know what all those interior renovations cost, but my guess is 10,000. So I am considering this deal only in that over time we would probably end up doing a lot of this stuff, so its essentially getting it done immediately at a discount. Its not 100% to my taste but thats easy to adjust. \n\nWhat I am wondering: \n- any guess what a reno like that would cost?\n- are there any mechanical advantages to the "73 over the "69? They both have drum brakes. How much difference does the engine size make? \n\nThanks in advance\n\nDavid

The 413 has more power and a good track record. The 318 is a good reliable engine but is a bit under powered for something the size of the 270. It all depends on what you want. You can get one that is ready to roll or keep the one you have and change the interior to your liking. It all comes back to what you want.

Yep, pick the one you like the best and let the other go to a good home.

With how hard my 413 with a mild cam works couldn't image the 318. If cruising flat roads may be doable but inclines would be tuff.
