New to us 79 Travco/foretravel 320

Unread post by Blizzard of 79 » Fri Sep 25, 2015 9:53 am

Just picked this nice bus up. In really great original shape. I don't know much about these units but I am sure I will have questions. Did they all have central Vac or was that an option? Mine has airbags on the front suspension was that a factory option as well?\n\nThanks,

The vacuum is an option. I believe the air bags are an add on. Tons of information here on the forum and a lot of knowledgeable people.

Looks nice! I'm guessing this coach is built on one of the last M600 chassis?

I think so, but how do you tell for sure?

Locate the Dodge VIN number plate. Will either be in the drivers area or in the radiator access area (drivers side firewall)\nFirst 2 digits of VIN\nM3 = M300\nM4 = M400\nM5 = M500 (19.5" tires with 5 lug nuts per tire)\nM6 = M600 (19.5" tires with 6 lug nuts per tire)

M 600 chassis it is. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? what did they go to afterwards? Drive train is 440 e with a 727 side loader I am told and Spicer rear end. Drum brakes on the rear and disc on the front. 6 lug rims 19.5 tires

Should be a Rockwell rear diff on the m600. M600 was the heaviest duty chassis for the dodge motor homes.

Yep, rear axle will be a Rockwell with 488 gear ratio. Very heavy duty!\nThere was no "next chassis" as Chrysler dropped large truck chassis production in order to concentrate on passenger car production in order to save the company. The Travco motor coach company went the way of the dinosaur afterwards.
