Mine did not have any of that but my biggest concern with the TQ was the bakerlite body. The have been known to crack and spray gas on a hot engine.\nHonestly if I knew I was keeping a 440 for sure, I think I would look into fuel injection. The new ethanol gas does not seem play well with carburetors .

My bakerlite bowl was in good shape/. No cracks or warpage. Just gotta be careful when you torque down the assembly bolts.\n\nThis 440 is coming out sooner than later. With the amount I drive it I am not too worried about gas mileage or the ethanol. I was looking at one of those fuel injection carb-type units that bolts up to the top of the manifold. Anybody have any experience with them?\n\nRobC

Carb is back together, replaced the fuel filter last night and all kinds of nasty rusty gunk came out of it. Firing it up (hopefully) tonight!\n\nWish me luck. \n\nStarting procedure as I understand it?\n1) crank starter about 10 times to fill the bown\n2) pump the pedal a few times to get the fuel from the bowl into the accelerator pump and into the primary jets\n3) fire it up\n4) listen to that 440 purr.....\n\nQuestion: How do I know when my bowl if full?

I doubt you will need to fill the bowl. you'll probably need just enough to prime it. as soon as she coughs to life it will draw a good vacuum, the pump will supply the fuel and off it will go. I have messed around before trying to fill the bowls up on rebuilt carbs and I usually end up with fuel getting purged out the vents, up the throat or it flooding out right off the bat.

Slapped the rebuilt TQ back on my rig. 3 or 4 cranks filled the bowl, couple of pumps of the pedal got two nice streams out of the idle jet and she fired right up.\n\nTwo things happened\n1) it was running a little rough for about 10 seconds and did not have enough time to adjust the idle screws (backed out 1.5 turns to start which seems to closed)\nSputtered to a stop and realized I had liquid gas pouring out of the secondary jets right onto the closed secondary air doors.\n\nThe primary needle tree seemed to suck down into place when the engine ran so I think that circuit is fine but when it ran rough it lost vaccum and the needle tree jumped up and down. \n\nI am guessing the raw fuel out of the secondaries is due to improper float adjustment. I thought I did it just like they said 1-1/16 inch to top(bottom) of float with gasket in place. I did replace the old phenolic floats with new brass ones.\n\nThe fuel poured in even after the engine was off for a few seconds and primarily came in through the left secondary. My rig is on a slight driver side down in its parking spot so this leads me to further believe its the floats.\n\nAny ideas?\n\nRob

74-75 Dodge Motorhome supplement manual and 76-77 Dodge Motorhome manual say float level adjustment spec is 29/32" +- 1/32" when measured as described on pdf page 26 (page 24) of 1982 Thermo-quad Carburetor Service Manual\n\n1 1/16" would have the float way to low.

Thanks Dave:\n\nIndeed 1-1/16 was way to low (resulting in the fire hose of fuel into the secodaries).\n\nPulled it off, reset the floats to 29/32 (or slightly lower) slapped it back on and she fired up on one crank and ran perfectly.\n\nI am back in business!\n\nNow I can move to change a tire, fix the shift shaft seal on the tranny, rebuild my dash, replace the power steering pump, continue on the wiring, get the gel-coat repairs done and.......\n\nGo camping!
