Good eye! They will need trimming. I have the same setup. I used my sawzall and cut about 4" of the middle out of the top and then had to cut about 2" of the bottom corners off at an angle along each verticle side. \n\nI will get some pics later tonight.

What is that steel mesh thingy? I didn't have that. Is it a vent? \n\nAfter I get mine back together I am thinking of putting an electric fan mounted there with duct work to the outside to be able to blow some air around in there if needed on hot days when moving slow.

OK I'm not crazy I look forward to your pics.\n The meshy thing is the air intake for the defroster, I think. I suppose the idea is to pre-heat air before passing it over the heater core. Not sure if it is used for anything else.

Thanks! Now I get it.\nDid you have to cut back any of the plywood flooring?\n Like your white paint on the frame, etc. Will keep it nice and light in there! Easy to spot oil leaks too! (not that you will have any)

Re: Engine Removal from 270?
Ya- if you have ever been inside a tank or military style vehicle, a coat of white paint really makes ahell of a difference in the engine bay and crew area.\n\nI removed all of the plywood last fall when I rebuilt the front floors. the pieces that were around the engine bay basically fell off when I pulled/tugged on the carpet, so I didn't have to cut plywood. When I re-trim that area I will just put plywood back across the open space, it wont make a difference structurally...

Re: Engine Removal from 270?
I just scored a 76' 270 with a 440 and 5 lug rims on Friday. I am going to pull that 440 out and go through it and put that in instead of putting the 413 back in. that will let me get all the parts for my 413, put it together and get it set up and in storage for resale or re use later on down the road.

Re: Engine Removal from 270?
Any thought on fuel injection on the new power plant ? If I don't convert mine to a Cummins and every rebuild my 440, I am going that route for sure.

Re: Engine Removal from 270?
I've thought about fuel injection, but is there a kit or system to fit on a 440? and to be honest I have been shopping around for 8.1 Workhorse engine and transmission to install. They can be pretty expensive, but once the engine bay is opened up, the frame work and engine mounts seem straight forward and I don't think it would be hard to squeeze that monster GM power plant in there.\n\nBut much like a fuel injected 440, its kinda a dream until all the pieces fall into place...
