Proper oil in Onan 6.0 CCKB

Unread post by highwaystar » Sat Jun 27, 2015 9:54 am

Changing the gen oil, previous owner has been running non detergent 30. It is printed on the Onan that it wants detergent oil and the internet confirms this. \n\nWould like to run the 10w 30 amsoil zrod I run in the other old cars but concerned about switching to detergent after 750 hours. Does anyone have any thoughts? It runs great and it doesn't look like a fun project to pull it.\n\nAlso, appears that this unit does not have an oil filter, does that sound correct.\n\nThank you,\n\nKarl

I wouldn't worry about changing it to detergent oil. \nMine doesn't have an oil filter either. I just run 30w automotive oil in it.

At 1045 hours put on by PO's... I drained absolutely filthy oil out of the Onan 6kw CCk.\nThis is the same as what was in the 76 i had. No oil filter. Replaced with three (3) quarts\nof plain 30 weight oil to the full dipstick mark. Ran for a bit and the oil looks clear as olive oil for now...\nNow... Where do I get and what are the part numbers for the points, rotor etc. for these\nbrutes..also can't seem to find a PDF nanual for the 6000 CCK Onan... \nBBB

Dave.. Thank You... All I could come up with/find, was up to a 5kw unit...\nI am sure others have had the same frustrating 6kw problem...\nand can now add these files to their library.\nDarn thing fires right up and is still running great but with a slight \nflickering that is tolerable for now...\nHave switched to almost all SMD lighting for less voltage consumption...\nBBB
