new owner of a 1969 Travco 210

Unread post by darwinless » Sat May 16, 2015 6:00 pm

Just dragged one out of a friends back yard. it needs a new windshield and drivers sliding side glass and frame. What are the chances of finding some glass for these things. It was operable when it was parked so I believe I can get the onan, 318 and ac working, but not worth much good if I cant find glass for it. Help!\nDavid

Welcome  \nA good glass shop should be able to fix the side window. It's just flat safety glass. The windshields as far as I last knew were still available...Better hang on to your wallet though. About 1200$ each shipped. You will also probably need a new windshield gasket as yours is most likely rotted. Foretravel still sells them. About 150$. If you are gonna try wrecking yards you need early 1973 back. Basically the donor coach needs to the headlights up high like yours is. If it's a 73 with the headlights down low, they look the same but are off by just enough that they won't work.\nI forget the name of the company that makes the windshields but the parts guy from Foretravel can tell you.

Dear lord, so from what you say the windows are going to be 2,550 and that doesn't even cover the side window... I 'm at a loss for words now... Foretravel guy eh? Will get in touch with him and see what he says.\nDavid

Non running, parts Travco projects do pop up from time to time for cheap. Worth to buy just for the parts if you need them but you gotta keep a lookout.

here goes once more.. consider a flat glass conversion? \nFlat for one side, tinted and installed is less than $150.00\nHere is a pic of a Travco converted....FWIW\nBBB

That looks like the ticket! Where do I get the gaskets for that? \nPressure washed it today and threw a battery in it, piped in fresh gas and she fired right up!\nI was cleaning the interior and found the power cord for it. I plugged it in and the ac unit on top started running! Cold air!\nHooked up the water and all that seems to work too. I have to get it close to the clean-out I have in my front yard next and hope the tank empties and wasn't left full of waste...\nI'm in love with this beast already, been looking for a camper I can park anywhere! Key west late summer sounds nice!\nDid all these come with an onan in the back or was that a previous owner add?\nDavid

I believe the Onans were the default gensets. Also Koehlers have been seen in some travco's... Go thru the water system ASAP and make sure none of the plumbing/plastic pipes are cracked and leaking due to being 46 plus years of age and the potential for a sudden freeze during that time... Gaskets as the windshields would be in a fabricated 1/2" or larger channel would /should be available at a truck garage or glass installation place. Appears to be the same design as school buses etc. anything using flat glass.. Gradall cabs, back hoe cabs etc. HTH FWIW... Got to get a model number of the genset for accurate assistance and manuals... and it worked for me.. A bag of ice in the toilet, a decent ride and let the cubes scour the inside of the tank.. Later in the evening, stand back and open the valve with the rv leaning/tilted towards the hiway to help get all the potential "sludge" out.. Maybe a lillte bit of dawn also???\nBBB

Thanks! You guys have been awesome help! I'm excited to have this classic streamliner looking road blob! The previous owner wants me to paint it R2D2 themed, and since she gave it to me for removing it from her yard, I think I will fulfill her wish!\nWill post progress as I make it.\nDavid

Oh, I have two chrome grill bumpers on the front and none on the other side. Did they have a center piece across the radiator? Where can I get the missing pieces?\nDavid

yes there are matching bars that went across. Some people remove the side ones and do away with them altogether.
