Dana ratio's
Was looking at a few recent units for sale....long & short and was curious...\nAs I am presuming (Right or Wrong) that All the Travco's sold used the SAME DANA rear,\nsame DANA gearing, except for the number of rear wheel cylinders used on various years... \nAs body lengths, interior mods and also GVW's changed thru the years.. . \nAnd were only powered by 3 engine sizes... 318, 413 & 440' and 3 speed 727's. \nAnyone know of or are aware of any optional gear ratios offered or ratios factory changed... \none for a 210 and one for a 32 or 35 foot Travco ?????. Other than the "supposedly standard" 4:56's ???? \nWith the gas shortage and reduced National speed limit of 55 MPH. I can see it.. BUT...Later they found \nenough gas to raise the speed to 70+Curious... still looking for a "magic" bullet on rpm's.. \nBBB 01/03/15

Re: Dana ratio's
According to my 1976 - 1977 Dodge motor home chassis service manual:\n\n-The M300 chassis came with a Spicer 60 and 4:88 ratio when equipped with a 360 engine... or a Spicer 70 with either 4:56's (440 engine) or 4:88's (360 engine).\n\n-The M400 chassis came with a Spicer 70 and either 4:56's (440 engine) or 4:88's (360 engine).\n\n-The M500 chassis came with a Spicer 70HD and 4:56's.\n\n-The M600 chassis came with a Rockwell and 4:88's\n\nI am not sure about other years but I bet they are the same.

Re: Dana ratio's
hi...thanks.. never saw a TRAVCO 210 and up with a 360..And I guess Spicers, not Dana's ruled...just learned something again... and guessing from this, that even the 35 footer was gear bound and the "sweet spot" for all stock Travco's was/is 55-60 mph....? BTW, saw one ad (recently) stating his Travco was up to 80 and running great... Did not mention any vendors...\nWondering if was this a "once upon a time" event...? now to think of something else to pass the time... again tnx.\nBBB 01/03/15

Re: Dana ratio's
Driving mine home the day I bought it I was running between 70 and 75 most of the way. Had the GPS with me and verified the speedometer.\nI was not going to push it any harder although I think it might have had more with the right carb.

Re: Dana ratio's
any idea as to the rpm's that long stroker was turning at 70 mph?.\nI was running with only the front discs when I got mine and white knuckled\nit till I got to the storage area. At 60 mph it seemed to me to be at the edge of normalcy.\nAm now waiting to get it towed to a good brake job shop...after which I will be able\nto see the decent operating speed and mileage.. TNX for the input.\nBBB

I would say by ear she was turning around 4000 rpm. Without a tachometer it is hard to be sure though. I may add one just too keep an eye on the revs.

Re: Dana ratio's
I have run my 270 as fast as 85mph (out here on I-10 where the speed limit is 80 and I still got passed by everyone else). It will do it but the engine screams and will start running a little hot until I slow it back down to 60.
