to OD or not to OD

Unread post by rampeyboy » Tue May 19, 2015 8:27 pm

Guys I'm trying to wrap my mind around this; if I convert to diesel power, I assume I want to see highway engine RPM around 2000? So, I can leave the stock 4.56 gear, with my stock 8R19.5(33"diameter), use a .69 OD automatic transmission, and be running 65mph and 2086RPM? I know, the OD transmission wont live long due to increased heat, etc etc. and it was only available on the computerized trucks..But has anyone done it and had the trans fail? I only know of the one on youtube that used the OD trans, and as far as I know it's still going strong...

If your gonna go Cummins, I believe the 518 Trans is not computer controlled. Also I did a thread on converting a 518 to work behind a 440.\n\nhttp://www.travcoforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=16& ... f=44&t=223
