Fixed some leaks on my propane tank.

Looks like someone painted the tank and did not seal the fittings properly.Either that or the sealer just dried up. Not sure. Also they used a flare plug, not a IP pipe plug on the side of the tank which did not seal properly. The main valve also needed to be replaced. I used Natural gas grade teflon and paste sealer.

Sounds like it needed to be repaired by someone that knew something about gas plumbing, like yourself.\nAnother project done right.

Actually the PO painted it. He owned a bodyshop. Did a nice job on it. I would have used a brush...

Ditto on the tank paint. Mine looks like silver paint and rust. Thinking of painting it with some POR15 in silver.

Well....The one fitting I did not change that did not leak last time is now leaking... :x \nEverything else is good. I reused the fill quick connect. It was fine. Now it's leaking. I ordered another one.\nEverything else is good though.\nYou can get all the valves and fittings cheapest from www.protanksupply.com

I have a 72 270 with identical tank. Is it a difficult prospect to remove the existing propane tank? Maybe bolts that hold on brackets? I am ready to sand and paint mine but the quarters are so cramped that it appears I'll have to remove it. From reading online, it appears that the fitting above the valve is removed as a reverse thread. Is that the case? I'm not wanting to strip the nut. I'm also reading mixed reports on the regulator. Mine is affixed with a single stage regulator. Further reading suggest these can last for many many years. Others suggest they be replaced regularly. This one appears to have 6 screws holding on the outside case suggesting that replacement of parts may be possible. Anyone ever tried this? \n\nThanks for the supplier link! I'm needing to replace the valve as my pressure release component appears broken to release whenever the valve is on. it appears i may be able to unscrew the pressure relief mechanism from below. any one else with progress in that department? I'm hoping to insert a plug and use up a full tank of gas before replacing the valve.\n\n

It's been awhile but other than being a little on the heavy side, It should be 4 bolts to the frame and disconnect the regulator. I think it took me like 15 mins or so with air tools on the tank bolts.
