I am looking into putting a second ac unit on the roof of my Travco. Who makes a good re;iable unit? I was looking at a 13,500 btu Coleman with a 5600 btu set of heat strips. The old girl has the optional wiring for the second unit. What do the new units usually run price wise? \n\nThanks\nPaul

Sometimes they are on sale . Probably around 7-900$ with the unit and the air handler.\nSometimes you can find them cheap used on CL.\nI have an electric fan in the second hole. The one I was looking at is just under $700 after shipping cost. I was concerned one might not be enough in the summer heat of GA. Have not tested the one that is in the old girl as of yet. I have some work to do...

I live and camp in the northeast so overall probably cooler but I think 77Travco said he has no issue with just one. I know we had some 90 deg days and I was fine . You can pretty much only run one off the genset so two would be mainly for 50amp service at a campground .

My single unit A/C works well for me on hot summer days. I am not sure if duel unit Travco's can even run both units at the same time?

If on works fine in the Texas heat I should be good in Ga. I am hoping to have it ready by the summer of 2016 for a trip from GA to Arizona and back.

Well I thought the old AC unit was dead after the first camping trip. While checking it out before pulling it off I found a mud daubers nest on top of the caps. I cleaned that mess off and tested the caps and they were good. So I tried it again and it works. Not great but it does work. I already got a 13500 btu heat pump unit to replace it so it will be going over the rear roof vent and hooked to the already supplied wiring. With this set up I am hoping to not replace the bad furnace as being in the south I don't need a lot of heat to keep warm.

I would like to look into a second unit, not because one is insufficient (one worked well in Florida), but to be able to hear the TV at a decent level. The one unit is right above ones head, and (IMHO) is loud. Ducted units seem quieter, but I don't think they could be installed in a Travco.

I have had a portable 110v unit in my kitchen for a few.... Google a SPT12000...It vents like a dryer with a furnished rectangular opening..say...4 x 5...and exhausts the water out the same vent. The size would be smaller than a exhaust vent opening...\nIt is the size of a dehumidifier and can be put in when needed and removed when not, saving the roof opening for a much needed fan...If I need another, it would go where the couch butts up against the Wemac panel, sink area on the curb side for mine. (My couch is out for my Goldens) And it is usable in the rv AND house...No matter what... the genset cannot run two anyhow...Plus it IS cheaper and not that heavy...FWIW\nBBB\nNote: This is a 12000 BTU unit, not a low dollar window unit at 5000 btu's...\nNote: The price shown is from a few years (2010 or 2011) ago when I ripped this NFO for myself.\nNote: The power consumption is under 950 watts and the weight is 70 pounds...\nIf one has two of these, a 4kw genset could/should run both while motivating down the hi-way...\nor maybe off a 2500 watt inverter????... just rambling...and another option...fwiw...

Last camping trip the heat pump was tested for a short period. The furnace is coming out to make more room under the kitchen cabinet. The old Onan NH 6.0 will run both ac's fine after a little repair work in the breaker box. Someone had done some half assed changes in the past and had both ac circuits tied to the same breaker and the water heater on the same side of the main as the ac's. A new 50 amp main breaker, a new 20 amp split breaker for the ac units and relocating the water heater to the other phase of the main has it all in good working order. After 10 minutes the heat pump had it warm as hell inside of Nessie and we cut it off for the night.
