Started my Cabinets

I wanted to keep stain on mine which is proving to be alot of work but I hope the end result will be worth it. I started stripping them with the help of my cousin who is a master cabinet maker. I used a 5 inch D/A sander. also my cousin loaned me a profile sander for the tough areas.

Looks like we have the same interior layout. And we are both doing the same thing right now except you are sanding and staining. I (we) took what I thought would be the easier route and are still painting.\nI guess there is no getting in a hurry about this.

No, no hurrying at all. I am trying to keep the interior somewhat original although my couch is missing and i gotta admit, I do like the extra room with out it. We have a great dane...

We have two 80lb dogs. One is missing a rear leg so she has a harder time climbing up the step... But seems to get up on the couch pretty easily! lol

Well Stripping the woodwork to bare wood has proved to be alot more work than I want to do and just to have the doors dipped was around 400$. I was picking up more stripper at Home depot when I saw this cabinet refinishing system. I was not in love with the idea of painting them but 75$ for the kits vs probably close to 1,000$ by the time I am done with stripping, staining etc was pretty appealing and also solves my problem of working in the cold . This stuff is latex based so I can use it with the gs furnace on . The Oil based stains posed a fire hazard. I was skeptical how good this would look but I have the base coat on. Now I just have to do the glaze and clear coat. It doesn't look too bad and if I decide to use the dinette I can use this stuff to make it match. it will have a slight distressed look as the glazing brings up the grain a little. I notice the color coat hugs the grain nicely and lays down with no brush marks. The wood does not need to be stripped. Only deglossed although I am going to light sand because of the loose clear coat.

I am using a sprayer to lay down a primer that's designed to go on glossy surfaces, and has a bit of a pulp to it so it fills in the grain. Once that's all done I'll be shooting it again with glossy white enamel paint. Boring, but hopefully clean and crisp looking.
