1970 22Ft 318, lots of new but needs work

Unread post by bryanspoon » Sun Mar 20, 2016 4:15 pm

I have a 1970 22ft Dodge Travco with the 318, simple carb, runs great, has lots of new but is using a lot of oil. Diagnosis says it will need a new head gasket most likely.\n\nThings done:\n\nNew rubber all around + spare.\nNew shocks\nNew brakes all around\nNew Right header done\nNew blackwater tank\nHot water and AC works\nStove works\nFridge 'probably works' (according to my mechanic but I couldn't get it to work).\n\nHas 2 tanks, 50 gallons in the back and 20 gallons - nice to fill up, turn the switch and go.\n\nShe had a leak inside once before I got her but I fixed it and she's dry and without mold - actually pretty clean.\n\nI have spent over $10,000 on her, and just want someone to use her and fix her and run her - she ran last year all the way to Yellowstone in her and she was great, but then I had the header leak fixed ($1500) and then the oil leak.\n\nRight window has a big crack, but everything pretty much works.\n\nDon't low ball me too bad folks, I have receipts for over $10k of work, you fix the engine and you won't need brakes or rubber or shocks or or or ;)\n\nPlenty of pics to send if I can't do it here ;)

Dang, why does everything have to be on the other side of the country.\nI'd be all over that. I assume it looks like the one in my Avatar ?\nPost up some pics.\nThat sounds like the perfect candidate for a Cummins swap.

Using oil is not a sign of a bad headgasket unless the oil is in the antifreeze. Is the engine oil clean otherwise ? Is there pressure in the cooling system when yo first start it up ?\nDoes it smoke when running and if so what color and does it smell sweet or like burning oil ?
