So let me get this straight...

...so the brake switch isn't near the pedal, but is part of the slave cylinder, correct?
Is it testable if the master cylinder is toast/empty? I'd wager no, since I doubt anything happens back there as-is.

I wish I could help but having a 76 my brake light switch is a totally different set up.

It's no big deal, since a PO has put in a switch at the pedal which works fine (other than the ugliness of wiring mods). I've just been deleting nonstandard wiring and returning to stock(hoo, so many switches to get around the headlight switch) , but for the now, this mod will have to stay until I handle the brakes.

Lots of interesting wiring quirks when a '68 has had a 70's big block heart transplant...
